The grave of one of Albania’s greatest writers remains in ruins. Institutional silence is unacceptable.
The grave of Petro Marko, the towering figure of Albanian literature and the immortal author of “Hasta la vista”, is today found in a deplorable state: damaged, abandoned, and forgotten. For a country that claims to honor its literary icons, this sight is a shameful stain on our national memory.
Petro Marko was not merely a writer. He was an idealist, a humanist, a fighter for freedom, and an uncompromising voice of truth. He endured prisons and persecution, yet remained steadfast in the moral foundation of his work. Today, this great man rests in a ruined grave, neglected by those who should have honored him first.
A call to institutions: act immediately
The Municipality of Tirana, the Ministry of Culture, and all responsible institutions must act urgently. Restoring Petro Marko’s grave is not just an administrative duty—it is an act of respect toward our cultural heritage.
It is incomprehensible that ordinary monuments receive attention and funding, while the grave of one of Albania’s most distinguished literary figures is left to decay.

Petro Marko is part of Albania’s literary identity.
His works have transcended time and borders.
Caring for his grave is a moral and cultural obligation.
If Albania aims to build a culture of honoring art, it must begin with the figures who laid the foundations of its modern literature.

There can be no genuine respect for literature unless we respect those who created it.
Petro Marko gave Albania a name. Now it is Albania’s turn to return the dignity he deserves.
