We welcome the new Ambassador of the United States of America to Albania. Albanian-American friendship is a special relationship built on trust, democracy, security, Euro-Atlantic values, and a shared aspiration for a more developed, just, and secure Albania. We believe that the arrival of the new Ambassador can mark a new chapter in cooperation between Albania and the United States, with a focus on strengthening the strategic partnership, economic development, American investment, the rule of law, the fight against corruption, and the crackdown on organized crime and mafia structures.
One of the main challenges facing Albania and the region remains the fight against corruption and organized crime. For this reason, cooperation between Albanian institutions and American partners must be as strong, professional, and law-based as possible. Cooperation with the FBI, DEA, and other U.S. law-enforcement institutions, in coordination with Albanian authorities, can contribute to the fight against drug trafficking, money laundering, the financing of criminal activities, corruption, and international criminal networks.
Albania needs strong institutions, an independent judiciary, transparency, accountability, and an economy in which honest businesses can develop without criminal pressure or corruption. Therefore, another priority should be support for American investment, technology, energy, infrastructure, education, tourism, and sustainable economic development. An Albania that is more economically developed and institutionally stronger is a safer Albania for its citizens and a more stable partner for the United States.
At the regional level, Albania can continue to play a constructive role in strengthening security and stability in the Western Balkans and within NATO. Albanian-American cooperation should not be limited to diplomatic relations, but should extend to universities, young people, culture, media, technology, business, and civil society, creating new bridges between the two peoples.
Nacional and Flamur Buçpapaj, as voices committed to strengthening Albanian-American friendship in the region, welcome the new Ambassador and wish him success in his mission in Albania. We believe that an even stronger Albania–U.S. partnership, based on democracy, the rule of law, development, security, and the fight against corruption and organized crime, is in the interest of both countries and of Albania’s European and Euro-Atlantic future.
